No permission required to advertise the forum. The more members we can get the better it is, just need to keep it friendly and relaxed for people.

Hello all,
I created an account because I'd like to see something different take hold for NS. I don't post on the "other" site but I'm getting pretty tired of posts being removed and threads being locked or even deleted because some people complain. Right now there's a thread about how a different thread was locked because someone else's spidey sense tingled over an impending fight. Holy bad moderation Batman!
Moderation should be about removing offensive and possibly inflammatory content without disrupting debate. There's no reason why copper bullets, APRs, 2 deer bag limits, crossbow seasons, coyote pelt incentives, lobster prices, moose draws or anything else along those lines can't be discussed like adults as long as moderators are truly unbiased and stay on their toes. I honestly don't understand complaints from people about threads they just don't want to see when they can simply ignore them. Especially when complaints are coming from people not even participating in the debate/thread. On the other site, I get the feeling that people who sympathize with the losing end of the debate start either complaining in the thread or going to the mod. And yeah, by the way, having one mod for a site is a horrible idea. It just don't work.
I pray the moderators of this site do a better job. People can have a heated (and informative) debate without name calling and insults. I've never seen the harm in letting such debates continue. People can also insult but have valid points. Maybe before censoring someone consider editing the insult out of the post while leaving the point. People will eventually learn to tailor their posts to the acceptable standard of the site.
If the intention of the site is to simply stifle the level of debate that occurs on the other site because such debates make you uncomfortable then you can disregard the above. People like myself won't last long in a community that just seeks to enforce its own biases.
Thanks for reading,
Clan Bobble

Welcome Clan Bobble,
The debates and discussions are going to occur on here, just not with the "this is my opinion and you're not allowed to post your own" attitudes. Once the site has been established for a bit, so possibly in the next few weeks, and the membership has increased then nominations for who should be the moderators will be requested. Neither myself or lguthro will say member1, member2 and member3 are the moderators without seeking everybody else's input, this site will remain as unbiased and open as possible.
We all agree with you on the points you mentioned within your post which is why this forum was created. As for the censoring of posts I can safely say that if I'm doing the censoring then the section that was removed from the post, as it may not be all of it, will be copied into a message to the poster and an explanation for why it was removed. This would then open up a channel for discussion regarding that point and also help to make sure the same thing doesn't occur again.
We look forward to your posts and participation. If there is anything you want added or changed then let either myself or lguthro know please.
Thanks
Ken CanadianGoldenEagle

Truthfully, this is something that concerns me. Unless a mod is removing your posts or locking threads, no one is stopping you from expressing your opinion; even on NSH. The statement, "this is my opinion and you're not allowed to post your own" reeks more of hurt feelings than constructive debate. I guess we'll have to wait for the first great debate to see how things play out.

The statement, "this is my opinion and you're not allowed to post your own" reeks more of hurt feelings than constructive debate. I guess we'll have to wait for the first great debate to see how things play out. No need to be concerned Bobble. It's not hurt feelings but there wasn't really any constructive debate left on the other site, a certain member would always try to beat his own opinion into everybody else and wouldn't accept anybody else's. That same member was also the same reason for multiple members getting either banned from the site or placed into the moderator queue. I started this forum so that it was a fair place for everybody to meet and as such asked lguthro if he'd mind becoming an administrator of the site also. In a few weeks there will be a moderator team put in place, with all the members input on who gets the positions, so that the fairness is maintained. I am all for healthy discussions, it wouldn't be a forum if there weren't any, but there has to be some limits. Regarding my own opinion I will willingly say that I have one outside of hunting but where hunting is concerned I am too new to the hobby/lifestyle to be able to have a dead-set one so I am always willing to listen and learn. I also wait to see what the first discussion is going to be about as it'll be a good test to make sure all members, regardless of status, stay respectful of everybody else and don't try antagonizing or causing trouble. This forum should be treat as one big hunting or fishing camp, if I could manage to mount stuffed perch and deer/bear on the walls then I would do. Any issues though just let myself, lguthro or any of the moderator team (when implemented) know. Cheers Ken

Welcome to the fourm Bobble. What zone do you hunt in ? Hello Soletitbe, I hunt mostly 111 and sometimes 112. I've picked up hunting later in life and really only hunt small game at the moment so I actually had to look the zones up. I glean more from these sites than I could possibly contribute. Regards, Clan Bobble

That same member was also the same reason for multiple members getting either banned from the site or placed into the moderator queue. Ken, Please consider that I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but I know exactly which member and threads you're referring to and I have to say as a less invested participant my views of these discussions seem out of line with yours. I saw it as one member expressing their view while multiple people ganged up and even harassed them in non-related threads. I guess I'll be so unkind as to say some of the charter members on this site aren't innocent of harassing people they've had disagreements with from unrelated thread to unrelated thread. At the same time I've seen cries of bullying coming from the people that, from the outside, seemed to be doing the bullying. Perhaps there were some private messages going back and forth that I wasn't privy to. I'll respectfully disagree that that one member member was responsible for the bans and queues. As thick headed as that member is, I honestly don't recall them dishing it out as badly as they've had to take it. I'm sure we can all find links to back our views. I've been reading the other site long enough to see the same people cry "anti" anytime someone disagrees with them on their pet topic. Seriously if you want a site that people will take seriously, drop this underlying grudge against people that have different views about game management, weapons, etc. The above statement reads to me as, "we were on this site and some guy could say whatever he wanted and we couldn't shut him up, so we started out own site where we could shut him up." Again, I respect the intentions here because I feel NSH is too knee-jerk for me and I think it's time for something new. BUT I feel I'm searching for something less restricted than NSH and I'm not sure that's the goal of this site. I guess this site could be better than NSH if they let this post remain in the event I've offended a mod. All the best, Clan Bobble

Clan Bobble,
You haven't offended me or been disrespectful. You have raised some very valid points and I will agree that sometimes on NSH I was also a bit blinkered, probably more than I should have been. Regarding NSH I am no longer able to view or post anything on there as my IP (static) and username have been banned from the site so I'm not able to see if anything changes. This is my new 'internet home' now so I'm definitely hoping the forum grows and some healthy discussions are made.
Any contributions you make to the forum are very welcome and from myself will be viewed as being constructive, rather than negative, until they start to read differently or the threads wander away from their original post.
Thanks
Ken

Thanks Ken,
I hope you don't mind that not a lot of posts are Nova Scotia specific. I'm just trying to keep some content flowing and maybe generate some interest.
