Any one here booked to go Moose Hunting this fall to NFLD? If so when and where? I am booked, taking my daughter as well, going back to Mountain Top outfitters, SW coast. Into a Spike camp.

Working on an apple farm limits my ability to do most things I enjoy before the first week of November ...fall is our busy season..

Nice shot on the moose Lee. He went down like a ton of bricks. Did you hit him in the spine, and what rifle did you take him down with? Was that 3,rd moose away off to the right a small bull or cow? WTG

Johnny, I hit him in the neck. Not my favorite shot, but I was leaning against an old dead spruce so was pretty comfortable with the shot. That was my trusty old Win Mod 70, 30-06. Hit it with a Federal 150 gr. There were three Moose there, the Bull, then the Cow it was rutting and a smaller spike off to the far right.

Nothing like wild game in the diet, moose, deer ...I even like bear meat but don't enjoy the work involved in dressing them up ...way too labour intensive to be called enjoyment...LOL
do you get sausage made from the moose??

Yes I had 20 Lbs Mild Italian made. Excellant tasting. If I am lucky again this fall it will be the same routine. Most of my Moose is also cut into steaks, I like steaks, some roasts, but not too many and the rest into burger. Even my wife likes it.

The moose I got in CB and my deer are always cut at Reid's. This one was cut over in NFLD by the butcher in the town that the outfitter lives. He did a good job. Not cheap though, a Moose cut/wrapped (Vacuum Seal Wrap) and Sausage, was just under $400.00. That was about what we paid at reid's as well.

NFLD Moose Hunting sure has some large differences in rates. The place I was to the first time over has just increased their rates, $5100.00 plus tax, plus an obligatory $250.00 tip. That is real expensive. The place I went to last year and again this year is about half that price. It is your money, manage it wisely.

Which one, the expensive one or the "within my price range" one. It is $3500.00 all in, including taxes. Whole Moose out of woods, rather then the other, boned, 200lbs of meat period.

Well our 2014 Moose hunting trip to NFLD is over. Jennifer and I had a great week. On Thursday we finally got our chance, that was the end of the hunt for us. The Moose came at a full run through the Bog, coming within 10 feet of Jennifer as she was hidden in some tuck. Exciting for her and me. One shot and the Moose was down. The trip was successfull in a couple ways, we got a Moose and we had some great quality time together. First time in many years that she and I did anything like this. Life gets too busy at times and than time slips away. There were 8 Hunters in our camp last week, only three got Moose. The terran was tough, Mountains, Bogs, Tuck, many hard miles walked. This was great however. Perhaps she and I can do this again some time. Only time will tell. Great to be with Jennifer for the week, she never complained, she actually loved it there. Had a great time indeed.

A little late, but, this past fall , first week of Oct my daughter and myself went back to NL Moose Hunting. Same outfitter as years past, but a different zone. MMA 11. It was great. This time my daughter was the shooter. I bought her a Ruger American, 30-06. took her to the range, over and over. She was grouping good. Over there first hour of arrival, a Moose, 261 yards across the lake. She did not miss. That was beyond my ability, my eyes do not work as well as then once did. We are going back again this coming fall. Booked for the third week. I will be the shooter this time, her as a companion hunter...I/she am hooked beyond reason on Moose Hunting.
