Ferguson’s store to close July 31
WESTVILLE – A long-time source of fishing and hunting supplies in Pictou County is closing.
Ferguson’s Corner Store in Westville will close on July 31 after nearly 40 years, owner Bob Ferguson says.
“It’s about time to get out of it,” says Ferguson, who is 76. “Thirty-seven years is long enough. I’ve loved every minute of it but I want to enjoy life for a bit before I kick that bucket.”
Ferguson also left the Westville Fire Department after volunteering there for 37 years. His store also supplied items for Boy Scouts for 40 years – the only one in Nova Scotia with Boy Scout items for sale.
Besides a variety of grocery items, the store carries a massive amount of fishing and hunting gear.
Ferguson’s Corner Store has been a busy place throughout the years – despite its innocuous location away from the downtown core.
The fishing tackle is complemented by an assortment of flies Ferguson has tied over the years which are on display behind his checkout counter.
Hunting gear runs the gamut from a vast assortment of firearms and ammunition to hunting knives and clothing.
A stuffed multi-pointed buck’s head hangs from one beam, while a stuffed juvenile black bear ambles along the top of a display shelf.
Ferguson is not sure what will happen to the store, its stock or the Boy Scout supplies.
“What I do know is that on July 31, I’ll be done,” he said.
The store’s seasonal business hours will remain in effect until it closes for good.

Was only ever there once and bought 2 boxes of 22 shells. Glad he is shutting down on his terms and not forced out, always leaves the door open for someone else.

Linnie that is the one good thing, his son is the manager or was for the outdoors section at WalMart surprised he isn't going to take it over but he doesn't have near the passion or interest
