Based on our weather today and from what I see there should be a healthy population for 2015. Snow cover hasn't been an issue until last few weeks, the Does and Fawns i am seeing are heavy and healthy and large number of does with twins this year.
Exciting stuff, but the rise in predators in concerning i am still doing my best to control
what are you seeing out there?

I haven't seen any deer but I brought my camera in as well so I'm not sure what's happening in the orchard, haven't seen any tracks though. Will put the camera back out in March/April to start getting who's coming into the yard.

a lot of twins here. The deer are pretty much staying in the cover of the woods but, when they come out twins are the norm.

I'm just hoping that the last 2 weeks haven't caused any significant damage to the herd. They're starting to appear in town more so the woods must be too heavy for them. I haven't seen any signs around home, also haven't been down into the woodlot to check either as the snow is above knee-height.

I was speaking to a guy yesterday who is an avid snowmobiler. He told me he has found in the area of 30 dead deer in the past 2 weeks. Most are on or close to the lake shores.
Let's hope this snow goes quickly. We're coming up on the end of their energy reserves, and they need to get 'the feed bucket' on pretty soon.

It may be time to start checking grocery stores for the older stock and see if they're willing to part with it so that we can put food piles down for the deer. I haven't got the trail camera up and so don't know if any are coming into the orchard.
