With spring close by, I hope, and fishing season about to start it is time for me to get my ATV up and running. Mine is stored away each winter. I have a mid sized Arctic Cat that i use, pretty much exclusively for fishing on the old backwoods haul roads. It also gets used a little on my woodlot. What do others whom own AtV'S use theirs for?

Mine is primarily a workhorse. Over the winter, she's used for hauling wood from the back of the lot and plowing...In the spring she's used for putting the wood at the back of the lot (yeah...I know...seems kind've counter-productive, don't it !! )...In the fall she gets us and our gear into the camp (about a mile), and gets me out to the areas I hunt. She, pretty much, gets the summers off. Her most exciting adventure was the day we wrangled some pretty cranky cows back into the pasture...Things were pretty tense for a bit...and then she 'growled' at them...and they changed their tune !! Poor ol' girl don't get to have too much fun...she ain't a recreational toy.

Yes Bob, they are great inventions, so many uses. Some a bit irresponsible, but it is hard to change stupid in some folks. Mine sees a wee bit or woodlot work, hauls my camp wood and a bit of home wood but for the most part its a recreational toy for me. It certainly has opened up fishing corridors for me that I would never have seen. But then again it was the forest industry that really opened those corridors I suppose. Not much good for hunting in my case as I hunt well off the roads and trails where an ATV would be used.

The only reason that I never purchaced one was the fact that it would sit more than it would get used. I have never had the desire to get on a 4 wheeler (or sled) and just drive drive drive the roads, trails, tracks etc ....and yes there are some real morons out there with the things thats for sure ....but as we all know thats with everything in life.

i was looking at the atvs this year at the outdoor show, don't see the value add for what you get? but thats just me Luke I thought the same thing about 12 years ago. There was no way one of these things was going to be in my driveway. Then i bought a woodlot. My opinion changed fast. Not only the work useage but where you can go. ATV's opened up a whole new world for me, particularly fishing. I do Acknowledge that some on these machines are idiots. But not all, used correctly they take you to places that otherwise you would never have seen.

For sure Lee if you worked in the woods a definite value add the only use i could see for me is transportation for hunting/fishing. I enjoy the walk into the woods when you run out of road with the truck

Me as well Luke. The ATV is parked at the end of haul roads and the Compass/GPS come out. Some of heh old haul roads that I have been down would no longer accomadate your truck. Just saying. Howver each has their own thoughts.....I remember when I thought I would have no use for a boat either. LOL

We use ours for hauling wood out of the woodlot (sure beats using a wheelbarrow and trying to get it up the hill) as well as some light towing. Also comes in handy if we're needing the 4WD capability as it'll go anywhere - one advantage to a 2011 Polaris is that it doesn't falter when faced with tough challenges. Ours came in very handy during a snowstorm when I had to go for my wife who had got stuck in the snow 6Km away from home. The bike managed to get to her without any issues and then back home considering there was over a foot of snow on the ground.
We use it for going up the trails sometimes and having a trip out in the woods but it's mainly used for wood hauling.
