not sure what they're called but the mackerel rigs you can get from Dollarama (I'm a cheapskate). Did download a video from YouTube about how to tie your own rigs and thinking about trying that sometime.

That'd be ideal. I've now got Saturday/Sunday off (which sucks) so could go on a weekend. Will see what shift my better half is working before I can make anything definite.

I wouldn't throw them back tbh cause they wont leave when the blood is squirting out of them and the way they get active upon release...
also do they expect commercial fisherman to stop and measure every mackerel caught while fishing them, you just cant.... they didn't really think this through

Are the mackerel still running? I'm taking my dad down on Saturday to Eastern Passage/Bedford Basin but don't fancy it being a wasted trip. Regarding the size specification provided above where do you find out the mackerel fishing areas? I have looked through the regulations but can't find anything about the different areas.

Thanks Luke. Map isn't very clear but I checked with DFO and it's all of Nova Scotia except the Northumberland Strait region between NS and PEI as that's zone 16. My dad isn't around after this week so will just have to try our luck on Saturday, thanks for the tip about Purcells though.
