For white tail, what is preferred? I myself am a blind guy, put a brush blind on a ridge takes 10 mins cut your your shooting lanes and you are done. Saying this i know there are some spots like over grown chopping that need a tree stand to hunt
What is your preference?

Depends what I'm using. If using Crossbow then it's elevated but rifle/shotgun is blind.

With Crossbow I prefer to be elevated as I could almost always guarantee a pass-through and so it's better using the arrow as a way of telling where on the deer is hit by looking at blood colour, amount etc. From an elevated position the arrow will stick in the ground close to where the deer was hit instead of going for a bit of distance after the pass-through. Elevated also allows you to be higher than the deer so try to keep your scent away from the wind currents and their noses.
When doing the interactive bloodtrails on Bowsite.com they're always done from an elevated position and show you the arrow and so it's something I've learnt from there.
The shotgun/rifle wouldn't give much clue if you could find it again so doesn't need to be from an elevated position.

I have a small 3 sided affair. Enough room for me to get in, sit down and keep quiet. it is permanent in my wood lot and compleatly open. The deer can and do see me just as easly as I see them. So far using it for 8 seasons I have got 7 deer.

As for a blind, cammo, hunter orange, tree stand what ever, deer smell us long before they can hear or see us. What I have noticed is deer are terrified of movement, the faster or jerkyer of the movement the quicker they get into the lets get out of here mode. When a prospective "customer" approches my blind I move the bino's then the rifle if needed slowly and smoothly they just stand there looking at me trying to figure out if I am a threat to them. My stand looks into a cutting about 200 X 300 feet and the shot that I like is when they are almost dead center

thats my style too wait for them to be in my comfort zone and offer the shot, also prefer close range hunting vs trying to attempt shots at 100 yards and beyond

Set a blind up in the orchard this year for use with the rifle. This last week was a washout with no deer visiting but it's probably been too warm for them. Plenty of windfall in the orchard and still a load in a couple of trees so next weekend looks like an apple-picking/collecting weekend.
