Gents Lets hear your Fav deer Rifles and why you enjoy them! I have two my marlin 35 Lever action, i love it because it is a tack driver great for sitting in the stand nice compact gun with over under scope, my second actually is my Savage Axis 308, always been a 308 fan but on the axis i love its weight and despite being light there's little recoil the scope needs replacing but did an amazing job on this seasons deer, cant wait to use it next season for some still hunting and bush whacking

All nice rifles. Mine is an old Win Mod 70, 30-06, bought out of the box while posted in Chatham NB back in the early/mid eighties. It has travelled coast to coast with me. Has shot two different types of Deer, Whitetail and Blacktail, Moose in three Provinces and one Bear. It is all I need. To the best of my knowledge is has left no cripples.

Have a couple in various calipers but the 243 seems to be the one I grab now for local hunts and the 280 if I am heading out west.

Savage 111, 7mm rm, burris 3x9 scope, muzzle brake and a mercury recoil suppressor in the stock When I got this I got the package that came with a simmons scope. Luckly I found it to be a tack driver. So, I got to work on it. First up replace the scope. Then I adjusted the trigger pull down to 3 pounds and put a recoil suppressor in the butt. This fall I mounted a muzzle break on it. It has never had a factory round fired in it, I load my own from slow target up to the earspliitnloudnbanger stuff. How are things out South Gordon ....I see your still shooting that tank killer...LOL

I use a Marlin 30-30 win. for deer......its like my 3'rd arm and have a lot of trust with it on a hunt. Shot 2 bear in the head with it over a bait site also, and they were dead before hitting the ground. The other bears i got was with my 30.06... like the versatility and striking power....don't need a head shot with that baby.

Keep us updated and take pics Luke ..interesting project for sure . the SKS is notoriously in accurate as a matter of fact the 7.62x39 round is inaccurate ...but it can be made into a decent deer rifle/calibre within its limitations The russian 7.62x54 was a much better round

that is going to be my biggest issue is accuracy, looking into several different gas tubes, as well as firing mechanisms for a smoother action, we will see

For most of my life my pride and joy has been my Mod 70 in 30-06. I own others 30-30, 303, but the 30-06 has never let me down, it is all I need. Having said that I have considered other purchases over the years. A Weatherby in possibly 270 has been tossed around, but never happened, Now with the new Ruger American on the market, reasonably priced, with options I really like, I am thinking about it as a purchase, again possibly in 270. Anyone here have any experience with this gun?

My 'baby' is my .308 Model 70 Featherweight XTR. I had the barrel floated on her and the bedding re-done...and the trigger pull set to right around 3 pounds. For a light gun, she shoots pretty good...better than an inch at 100 yards. Her first day in the woods, back in the early '80's, she shot a moose and she hasn't looked back... A couple of years ago, I picked up a pre-64 Model 94 in .30-30...and I'd really like to give her a chance on a deer. I don't think she's ever shot one! Open sights and she shoots pretty darn good, too. With the 2 deer limit this year, I thought she'd have a go, but I just didn't need the meat at that point...but it was awful hard to NOT pull the trigger when the bugger was standing there, broadside, at 50 yards! LOL

Ever consider putting a stainless kit on it? In a word,,,,,,no. I have had a few stainless guns in my life (all of witch where hand guns) and found that the only reliable way of cleaning them was to remove the grips and run them through the dishwasher. The dishwasher did a remarkable job (esp. when useing finish tabs along with calgon rinse), but as you can imagine the grief that came my way from the missus. I stopped useing her dishwasher. I then tryed useing the clothes washer (when she was not home of course). And that worked well also, the only problem with that was wet guns. My solution was to put the wet guns in the dryer on FLUFF for 15 minites. That believe it or not worked rather well. But, again the wife was not impressed with the dents in the door and drum of her clothes dryer. My solution to that was buy her a new dryer, move the old one to the barn and remove the heat eliment from it, put 15 pounds of crushed walnut shell kitty litter in it along with my deprimed fired brass and run it for an hour. As it turns out I now have 1 big muther of a brass polisher!
8 of Sept and I figure I my as well come clean and tell all of you that I have never put any fire arm or brass in a dryer. But, I have run stainless handguns through the dish washer it really does do a bang up job
