The Hants West Wildlife Association will hold an event called
Everett Wile Memorial Giver er a try Ice Fishing
This will not be a tournament but a way to highlight ice fishing for young and old a like. We will have some gear to use and be able to cut holes there will be Hot dogs, tea. coffee, hot chocolate all free. Donations to the Association are free will only and not mandatory.
A 50 / 50 draw may be available as it was fairly popular during the tournament years.
The Ice fishing give er a try day will be on Sat Feb 15th which is on the Free Fishing Weekend that NS has no licence required.
The place this year is ST. Croix Ball Park Pond off of Exit 4 on the 101 HGY at St Croix

Anything that the HWWA does is a quality act. As well the St Croix pond has not been fished much this saeson, most do not even know it is open to Ice Fishing this year. Therefore there should be lots of action.

I live close by, but not for me. I do not ice fish here in NS, I have this thing about the safety of our ice with the ever changing temps here in NS. Went through the ice as a kid playing Hockey, once is enough. It is just me. LOL

That's why it's in Mid Feb. as it is usually our coldest month we are usually looking at 12 inches plus ice in this area last year when we had the tournament over 150 people attended from ages 2 to 80 something. No it was not me at 80 something, we at the HWWA are very concious of the weather which is why we moved the event to Feb. All we can do is hope for regular cold winter weather. Our climate is changing I look at today and think what a great day to go grouse, pheasant or woodcock hunting today is nicer than some of the days in the regular season. You know if this was April some of us would be looking for a place to cast a line from shore.
So lets hope for some cold get some ice and hopefully get a few folks into ice fishing and not sitting on the coach and punching a key board or having a conversation with a fine Irish gentleman named Jamieson or doing both.So here's to fishing and hunting no matter what the climate may throw our way. Mike

Not for me thanks. Being a Saturday I will, without doubt, be at my camp. Hope the event is a success. I noticed yesterday, for the first time that I have seen this yaer, there was a guy ice fishing on the pond. Good luck to all.

Right now there is at least 8 to12 inches of ice the first official measurements will take place this weekend, then another on Wed.This should be a lot of fun reliable sources told me if you can get worms somewhere I guess a few bait shops might have some that these really work. Some guys swear by or at shrimp and if worms work I bet if you went to a pet store and got some meal worms that would work too.

As with anything we do in NS we will play it as it comes. The weather is one reason we gave up on the Tournament type as any thing could happen. So if the weather is too bad well it will be a individual decision. There is at least 12 plus inches of ice and at this time no post pone date has or will be set. I will be there unless it is pouring down.
