Last evening, the boys at the golf club were talking about the bears they've seen around the Old Guysborough Rd., and Wyse Rd. On my way home, just before Pace's Lake, there in the middle of the road?...a bear. First one I've seen in a couple of years. Not a giant by any stretch. But... Turned onto the newly paved 107 and made it about 1/2 way home...MONSTER buck comes out of the woods running for the road. I got by and started flashing my lights at the car coming towards me. The lady driving hit the brakes as he was up on the shoulder of the road by then. REAL nice deer in a virtually unhuntable area.

Out By Falls lake on Chester (Windsor ) road I have a friend that lives there. They had a sow and two cubs hanging around . The sow got hit by a car, and was hurt, not sure how bad. They called DNR and they came and set up a trap. I told them that this was a death sentence to the Bear calling DNR. They argued with me and said no it was not. Regardless they caught it and killed it. Caught one of the cubs and not sure about the other. Personally I would have left them be and hoped that the Sow recovered. She was still with the cubs mothering them long after her car encounter.

For the winter we just went through and the concern many had for the Deer herd, as a result of this past winter, there sure is a lot of Deer sightings in my neck of the woods. Many many a Doe with last years fawns still in tow, great to see that they made it. Perhaps at times our concerns are not really relevant, Deer and wildlife in general have the knowledge of how to survive.

it is rare for us to see pheasant here. But we do see quite a lot of grouse and deer with the odd bear tossed in for fun

I know I'm not seeing the deer numbers I'd usually see this time of year, and the ones I am seeing are not where they'd typically be. No doubt we had a hard winter, and I think its impact won't be overly apparent until the fall, or even next year. I say that because when the herd crashed back in the 80's, it really wasn't noticeable until 3 years later in the area we hunted. The biologists claimed it was because of the void created by the age structure of the animals lost. Dunno...but fingers and toes are crossed...

All I can say Bob is that there is no shortage of Der anywhere I travel. I even noticed the increase in Deer way in the backwoods where I fish. 5-6 year ago not even tracks there, now a good pop of deer in there. This is all great if you area Hunter. Not so if you are a landowner, farmer or a frequent Highway Driver, ect.

Dead Deer on the 101 between Windsor and Hfx every day. See live ones each day as well. Fox with mange in my field, three Deer in my field, Rooster and Hen doing damage to my garden. Crawlers also out last night, got several dozen for Floundering fishing @0400 this AM. Also have some type of Birds howling all night long in the field in the pasture Spruce. Must be Night Hawks or perhaps owls?

Was up to Truro, yesterday. Saw some pheasants and a nice bobcat walked out onto the road just past Wittenburg. Saw 3 or 4 deer in the back of fields on the way home, about 7:30 or so...

6 rabbits and a spike with velvet this morning while on my way to work. Looked to be in lovely condition and didn't spook when I drove past him on Old Guysborough Road, just stood in the ditch eating.

Yesterday while Flounder Fishing off Cheverie we watch a Deer come to the shore and begin swimming across to Boot Island, Gaspereau River area. It got halfway across when better judgement took over. It swam back to the Cheverie shore.

Just back from your concert, therefore i think the only Rabbits you saw were the "White Rabbits" that Jefferson Airplane sang about at Woodstock. LOL Now that is real music compared to that old Country stuff in PEI. LOL

Lots of Bears up there in the fall...but only a few miles further, past that first Bridge, bear heaven. Come up some day when you see a truck, car or an SUV parked there. It would be me and you be welcome

I have a Doe/fawn in my field, along with a lone Doe. There were three, migt still be there, but have not seen them lately. Saw an entire family of ducks/ducklings killed on the 101 in upper sackville yesterday by the lakes (Springfield I believe) prior to the dump.I hate seeing that. Dead Deer in St Croix again this AM.
