Almost smoked two Deer this am at 0500 on someones front lawn just down the road here, they decided the road was safer, as I was passing by. Two Mallards in my small pond here today, one Rooster and two Hens here yesterday. I wish I knew what was happening to the Pheasants around here?

Had two geese on my pond this last week as well as getting a pair of mallards. Also seeing and hearing quite a few cock pheasants around (including the woods behind the house) so should be good when season comes round. I checked the trail camera yesterday and I've got at least 1 doe coming into the orchard - will put photos up in my trail camera thread when I get chance.

All winter long on my woodlot I fed deer, had lots there too. Thought there was no mortality there. Well. walked the back property line yesterday. Deer leg bones was what I discovered. Too bad, but that is natures way. As soon as the snow left two weeks ago the deer also left, just that fast. Saw beaver this AM while fishing along with two spruce Grouse courting right beside me. Quite the scene and sounds they were making. No Bears out yet where I fish either,

I'm still not getting anything other than grouse, pheasant and deer. It's GSAR tonight so will probably see about another 50 deer on my way there (and have earache from being told to watch the road too many times).

Made it up to Tatamagouche yesterday to pick up my canoe. Saw in the vicinity of 25 deer...they're all still grouped up. Didn't see any lone deer wandering about. I saw a rabbit, too !! Woo hooooooooo!!! Got a surprise at Nuttby Mountain...all white!! Covered in fresh snow!!

Keep seeing a load of rabbits around now on my way in to work. Looked like Winter didn't damage their numbers at all, thankfully. A couple of pheasant wandering around but no deer for a few days.

Sorry Luke, it was too good an opportunity to pass up. Not enough coffee at work to keep my humour in check.

ive been seeing some pheasants around, how do you tell the difference between natural and released as i have heard some stories of guys releasing pheasants on their land to hunt but never getting them all

not sure. I didn't realize that people were keeping domesticated pheasants and then releasing them. The only way I would think of would be if they were tagged, but it may not be easy to tell unless they've been harvested.

There are a number of Reserves/Preserves that release Pheasant for localized, private hunting, some make it to the wilds. You can buy eggs to hatch as well, some do and release these. One must remember Pheasant are not native here, therefore they all started here from released birds. Sightings this past weekend, let me think, copious amounts of Deer, 10 alone walking up the road at the HWWA building on the bog road. Ducks galore, Geese by the dozens, heard my first Loon of the year yesterday, several Beavers, some summer song birds are back, 40-50 Trout, a Fox, many Eagles and other birds of prey, no Bear signs yet, I am sure I saw other things, but I do not recall at this minute.

Thanks Lee, I hadn't realized that pheasant weren't native here. They're native in the UK so just presumed they were over here. Will probably see a few tonight and a load of deer on my way to GSAR. Heard a loon last Thursday and have a few ducks coming to the pond. I need to check the trailcam and see if there're any porcupine on it and also how the deer are doing.

There are tons and tons of pheasants around down this way ...can't go anywhere without seeing a dozen roosters..... with a good hatch of chicks this spring again this should be a fantastic november for the dogs. I am also seeing plenty of deer everyday too and from work there are deer in the fields....and sunday even though we didn't see the animal there were bear tracks down along the river when we were fishing

You're right Alpo. It was around the 10th Century AD that they were introduced to the UK, I always thought they were a native species with them taking so well.
